RURAL AWAKENING AT A GLANCE

Rural Awakening is a Women's March and Indivisible group formed on January 22, 2017.

We envision a region, state, nation, and world in which everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, body image, mental or physical health status - ALL people are treated with respect. We also envision our Earth  protected from the dangers of climate change, environmental degradation and corporate greed. We believe a balance is possible - where profit,  the environment, and the people’s right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness can exist in harmony. To bring about these changes, we will educate, advocate, and encourage appropriate legislation on local and national levels, mostly by working to get competent people into office.

On this site, through our Facebook page, and with our newsletters, we hope to unite and inspire the activist and progressive communities throughout Schoharie County to continue to work together to protect our beautiful home.

What We Stand For

A MULTICULTURAL SOCIETY

As our society becomes more diverse, we recognize the unique challenges that immigrants and people of color have in rural communities. We will work to educate ourselves and our neighbors to create a generous community that welcomes everyone, regardless of their country of origin, color or language. We will also encourage legislation that promotes these values.

GENDER EQUITY

Despite significant advances in women’s rights, we see that women are still not paid equitably nor do they enjoy the access to healthcare that would allow them to live healthier lives. We will work to insure women’s equality in the work place and access to health care.

A SUSTAINABLE EARTH

We strive to be good stewards of the earth. We see the effects that climate change is having on our environment, and we are working together to preserve it through direct action, education and legislation.
